Garmin Edge 305 GPS available as Garmin Edge HR, Garmin Edge 305 CAD plus Add on modules
After getting to know my Timex Trail Runner 5C391 since it's August introduction from both a runner's and cyclist's perspective, I thought it would be a long time before another performance measuring tool turned my head. Then Garmin sent word that they were building a bike computer with a heartrate monitor or cadence sensor; Edge 305 HR (heart rate) and Edge 305 CAD (cadence). Although these bicycle computers are cycling specific, they offer some compelling high-line features. I'm glad I've finally gotten my hands on one so I can conduct some Garmin Edge 305 reviews.
I believe you can definitely take your riding workouts to the next level with Garmin Edge 305 bike computers, Garmin's newest line of GPS enabled, personal trainers and bicycle computers. Competitive road racing and mountain biking cyclists alike will enjoy this user friendly, lightweight Garmin Edge GPS as they seek their personal best. Featuring ease of use, with a Garmin Edge on your bike you will always know where you are going and how far you have traveled.
The Edge 305 bike computer with heartrate monitor (305 HR) comes packaged with a heart rate monitor and the Edge 305 CAD (cadence) with a wireless speed / pedaling cadence sensor to provide valuable feedback.
For those who must have both (like me) Heart Rate and Speed Cadence add-ons will be sold separately as accessories so you can incorporate both feature sets into your training regimen. In addition, both Garmin Edge 305 models incorporate a barometric altimeter for extremely accurate elevation and vertical profile data.
More important, the Edge 305 is the first Garmin ever built to use the new SiRF Technology, Inc. SiRFstarIII GPS receiver. This new receiver offers the best reception to date when used in the city in the shadows of tall skyscrapers or in woods and valleys covered by trees.
( Recreational cyclists looking for the perfect touring companion and fitness partner bike computers may choose the more economical Garmin Edge 205 )
The Garmin Edge GPS has the ability to measure pedaling cadence, heart rate, speed, distance, time, calories burned, altitude, climb and descent, plus much more.
305 features include . . .
The Edge 305 with Heart Rate Monitor lets you see whether you are training too hard or not hard enough. The heart rate monitor uses wireless technology that eliminates crosstalk and interference, and sends heart rate data to the Edge via a soft, comfortable chest strap. This data is stored with each track point for post-workout analysis.
The Edge 305 with Cadence includes a self calibrating, wireless speed and cadence sensor so you can monitor your pedaling cadence as you ride. Like the heart rate monitor, the speed and cadence sensor uses the same robust wireless technology to measure and report your pedaling strokes per minute.
With its waterproof, sleek design, either Edge 305 makes a perfect companion on any bike, and attaches to either the stem or handlebars. Its rugged case frames and easy-to-read, large, backlit display shows up to eight different data fields along with altitude and a map view.
The included Training Center Software gives you the ability to overlay your ride data onto a course map and offers interactive analysis tools that measure your speed, distance, climb, and descent against varying terrain, elevation and more. Create and schedule custom workouts or use workout templates and download to the Edge.
